Supporting research

The European School Education Platform and eTwinning provide services to thousands of school education professionals every year. This generates a large amount of data that can support research on teachers’ professional development, networking, and internationalisation, for example. The European Commission wants to encourage independent research on the impact of the platform and its associated activities, especially eTwinning, by sharing open data sets.

Data sets

1 - Pedagogical surveys

Pedagogical surveys are used to collect views from a wide range of stakeholders on issues impacting the school education sector. Three to four surveys are published annually on the platform and are open to anyone via EUSurvey (the European Commission’s online survey tool). The collected data is not standardised, and the overall results should therefore not be considered representative.

2 - Self-reflection tool on inclusion and wellbeing in school

The self-reflection tool on inclusion and wellbeing was launched in 2025. It contains six sections, each with 5-16 questions. After responding to each question and concluding the questionnaire, respondents will receive a score and an evaluation report by email including concrete examples on inclusive practices. EULogin and an account on the European School Education Platform are needed to use the self-reflection tool.

The exercise and data are foremost meant for self-reflection, and respondents can fill in the questionnaire as many times as they want. The collected data is not standardised and the overall results should therefore not be considered representative.
