Our school, Pražské humanitní gymnázium (a humanities grammar school), is located near the centre of Prague, in the Nusle district. The school building comes from 1911, and for that reason is gradually being modernised. The school grounds include a small courtyard and two outdoor school sports pitches. The school location is one of the quieter places in the city. There is a small park and a residential area in the vicinity. One can get to the centre of Prague within 10 minutes.

Our educational programmes include the senior years of primary school (junior high school 12 – 15 years old) and senior high school. The age of our pupils ranges from 12 to 19. The number of students studying at both levels is similar. There are
no more than 22 students in any given class. The school has School Parliament, which is made up of representatives from all classes and which co-organises many events and represents the students, e.g., when communicating with the school
management.

We are a private school. Currently, there are fewer than 300 students and more than 40 teachers. We focus on modern education that relies on project-based and formative learning. Our focus is a tuition of foreign modern languages as well as Czech language. Our goal is to educate graduates who, after leaving the secondary school, are equipped with core skills they can apply in any field or when studying at university. We expect that at least 90% of our graduates will continue their studies at university. Some of our junior high students are disadvantaged students and have the support of the school's inclusion enhancement programmes. The school's pupils come from a variety of social classes. As a result, pupils from different family and socioeconomic backgrounds meet in the same class or group. The school psychologist is available to
the whole school and works not only with students who need individual support, but also sorts students into groups so that as many students as possible spend their time in the most pleasant environment, while at the same time learning how to solve everyday problems and conflicts.

Our school’s location, Nusle, is an in-built neighbourhood. There are no large and continuous green areas near the school. However, there are many local shops and producers in the area who try to provide environmentally friendly services, locallysourced produce, and promote a more harmonious relationship between the city, people and nature. The local residents gradually demand this type of service more and more. Our school would like to join this trend. Our students, through the School Parliament, regularly express the desire and need to transform our school to a more environmentally friendly establishment. We are housed in a 1911 building which is environmentally burdensome, and because of this the students find it difficult to see the ways to achieve their vision of the school being in a more harmonious relationship with its surroundings.
