European Commission's Webinar on Global Citizenship Education: Exploring Global Citizenship in the Curriculum

Maastricht University is a European network university with a global outlook and a strong advocate of internationalisation. Recently, it committed to building a repertoire of global citizenship education activities for all students. To this end, lecturers from all faculties were invited to contextualise global citizenship, resulting in a dynamic global citizenship framework for the university.

Description

The framework and supporting activities help faculties to make explicit where aspects of needed world citizenship competences are already (implicitly) addressed in educational programmes. The framework also helps to identify opportunities for diversification of the educational offering.

About the speakers

Herco Fonteijn

Herco Fonteijn is associate professor at the Department of Work and Social Psychology, Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience, Maastricht University. He has extensive experience in designing and implementing education with active learning forms like problem-based and challenge-based learning. Special areas of interest are educational innovation, internationalisation, and capacity building. Currently, he is in charge of a major revision of undergraduate education in psychology and institution-wide initiatives to mainstream global citizenship for sustainable development at Maastricht University.
