PT - Analog mission on Terceira Iseland
Seven astronauts from 5 countries simulated an expedition to the Moon, inside the Gruta do Natal (Christmas Cave), on Terceira island. This cave was chosen due to its similarities with lunar lava tubes.
The cave “Gruta do Natal”, on Terceira island, is on the map of space research and attracts the interest of ESA (European Space Agency) and NASA.
Seven days and six nights of training in a simulacrum monitored remotely by a team of doctors and geologists that guaranteed the safety of the mission.
Analogous astronauts were testing the sensation of living in a lunar environment. It is a testing ground for training missions to the Moon and Mars. It is expected that it will be one of many camps inside the cave and that the Azores and Portugal will become a place to carry out space experiments and training.
