OECD policy paper: Untapping the potential of resource banks in the classroom
Resource banks provide curriculum-aligned tasks and instructional materials for teachers, pupils and parents, helping to enhance learning. While they have become an important curriculum and assessment tool in many OECD countries, information about the resource banks remains scarce.
The current policy paper provides information about the users and uses of resource banks, including as a curriculum and assessment tool. Resource banks can contribute to improving the quality of classroom assessments, be a central lever for standards-based instruction and assessment, and foster collaborative learning among teachers.
The document concludes by presenting a framework for the establishment of a resource bank:
- Conceptualisation and preparation: Policymakers should develop a clear concept of the resource bank and plan its governance and resourcing structure.
- Content and technological development: Content definition and platform technology should prioritise quality, security and user privacy.
- Maintenance and promoting use: Promoting awareness among stakeholders and ensuring ongoing content and IT support will help resource banks have a lasting positive impact on educational practices.
