There and Back Again: A Space Tale

We are living in times of great social, environmental and historical change. It was six decades ago when Apollo 11 set off and for the first time in human history a man stepped on the moon. Within these years a great technological advancement has taken place and we are now living the years of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Now, we are going back to the moon, and our generation is about to relieve the past and further more, we will be spectators and our students could potentially become the future scientists who might add a stepping stone to the man's effort at inhabiting other planets. This project is an eTwinning collaboration between two schools, the 1st Gymnasio of Thessaloniki, Greece and the Primary school Središće, Zagreb, Croatia. The main objective aims to the students' familiarization with the field of space exploration, and their involvement in creating a 3D lunar base model, in order to participate in the European Space Agency's (ESA) contest "Moon Camp Challenge". The students will be both collaborators and competitors. They will cooperate in gaining the foundational knowledge needed for creating a realistic lunar base. They will design their Moon Camp, which should be adapted to the Moon environment, consider the use of local resources and provide protection, living and working facilities for the astronauts. In the end, each school will submit its own project and research paper, according to ESA's rules.
