World Ocean Day for Schools

Join the global experiment !

news, stories and updates for educators

curated by the world ocean day for schools team

We’ve got some exciting news for you this week ! On June 7th we’ll be hosting a global citizen science experiment as part of our World Ocean Day celebrations - and we’re inviting you to take part !

As you know this year we’re exploring what it means to be a good ‘blue’ human. We’re collaborating with our amazing partners and guest scientist Dr Pamela Buchan from the University of Exeter to create an experiment to collect data from schools around the world on marine identity, marine citizenship & place attachment.

We’re on a mission to learn more about humanity’s relationship to the ocean and how best we can improve it. Our focus is understanding what that looks like for kids.

If we know more about our relationship with the ocean then we can use that knowledge to help shift behaviour & protect our amazing blue planet.

To take part you’ll need to ensure your school has mapped it’s local blue space on the Our Blue map.

Add your blue space to register for the experiment !

If you’re already on the map - amazing - we’ll be adding more activities soon !

Did you know our work this year is aligned with the UN Ocean Decade ? It’s a collective global initiative focusing on ten priority challenges. Watch the video below to learn more 👇🏼

Ocean Decade Challenges

Ok - that’s it for today - we’re excited to see your blue space on our map !!

As always, if you have any questions or ideas you’d like to share, please just ping us an email.

Love from the World Ocean Day for Schools team !

PS. Good news - Teacher Toolkits will be with you next week !
