The Learning Train

In Antwerp, Belgium, student teachers may volunteer at the Schoolbridge NGO to participate in the Learning Train initiative. This initiative provides on the one hand the student teachers with an experience of involvement with parents of migrant and/or disadvantaged background, and on the other hand the parents with skills to support their children in learning. The students work with and coach the parents once a week for 60-90 minutes. This support is tailor made: depending on the needs of the parent and adapted to the school lesson or homework. The students are also coached by the educational welfare worker of the NGO Schoolbridge, in their learning process as a future teacher or social worker, as they both will work in partnership with parents of schoolchildren.
