Songs have a great power to express feelings, ideas and, in certain cases, the cultural identity of a people. The challenge of this project is to try to recover the roots of our cultural identity through some regional folk songs typical of our countries, with the awareness of their peculiar linguistic diversities. Students will be asked to choose some folk songs representing some regions of their own country and to work on the lyrics in order to deduce the meaning of the contents conveyed through the regional languages/dialects. They will also search for and share historical information about the authors, the context in which the songs were born and, afterwards, they will be asked to synthetically translate the meaning of the songs into English, for their project partners, and eventually to sing them. At last, they will try to sing one of the songs originating from each partner country and, perhaps, they will be able to discover similarities among the languages and traditions involved.
