You are what you eat

The prevalence of malnutrition and non-communicable diseases such as diabetes is a serious public health problem in the world. Fighting malnutrition in all its forms, such as micronutrient deficiencies, overweight and obesity, constitutes one of the important global problems for countries today. According to the data of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), more than 3 billion people cannot eat healthy today. The biggest difficulty in improving nutrition is inadequate nutrition and awareness. Nutritional errors cause many irreversible health risks. Therefore, an important priority for countries is to raise people's awareness about food. Based on this, the concept of FOOD LITERACY has emerged as an approach to redefine what individuals need to know and do about food in order to be healthy and live well. FOOD LITERACY can be defined as accessing information about food and nutrition, understanding and evaluating the information obtained, making the right decisions in the light of information and turning it into a food consumption habit, choosing and consuming appropriate amounts of safe and healthy food. It is clear that schools are a very important first step for food literacy education programs. Our aim in this project is to provide students with raising awareness about food literacy, developing food literacy skills and competencies, Increasing knowledge about the sustainable food system, reducing nutrition-related diseases by increasing food safety and hygiene knowledge, gainining label reading knowledge,to increase students' knowledge about domestic food processing techniques to inform about healthy eating habits.
