A Taste of Different Cultures

Our project "A taste of different cultures" wants our students to rediscover their local traditions and festivities, as they are a vital part of their national culture and their national identity. This knowledge, however, should not be kept in a national context, but it should be integrated into a larger European framework. We believe that you be open to other cultures if you know your own roots and traditions. The students will achieve this by investigating and presenting their own countries and their local festivities first. Afterwards students will research occurring similarities and differences. They will specialise in one aspect of cultural life (e.g. food, dance, costumes, music etc.) of all the participating countries. They will also examine which status these customs have in everyday teenage life. The use of ICT is a crucial aspect of the project. The students will learn in various subjects how to research and present a topic efficiently and effectively. They will use the Internet as a means of communication between the participating nations and will, thus, broaden their horizons. The work on a common exhibition and a ‘Teenage guide to European festivities’ will give them the unique experience of working internationally and contributing to final products. To have the chance of witnessing the launch of their final product, most of the previous Comenius ambassadors (i.e. students that were involved in previous mobilities) will travel to Turkey for a big farewell celebration. The integration of the project into every school's day-to-day business will give the whole school the chance to be part of the project, to develop a European consciousness and to get “a taste of different cultures”.
