Description
Outdoor STEM education is an innovative professional development course designed for primary, middle, and high school teachers. This course aims to equip educators with the skills and knowledge necessary to create engaging and educational outdoor STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) lessons. Participants will learn how to utilize outdoor environments - from school playgrounds to city parks - to enhance their STEM curriculum. The course includes hands-on training in developing outdoor STEM trails and creating lesson plans that bring science to life outside the traditional classroom. The training will equip teachers with strategies to increase student engagement and motivation, particularly in outdoor and hands-on learning scenarios. By the end of the course, teachers will be prepared to establish their own outdoor STEM trails, fostering a love of learning and discovery in their students.

Methodology & assessment
The “Outdoor STEM Education” course employs a methodology that combines experiential learning, hands-on training, and creative use of outdoor environments. Teachers learn through direct experience and focused reflection, gaining practical skills through hands-on training in developing outdoor STEM trails and creating engaging lesson plans. The course encourages innovative use of outdoor spaces, from school playgrounds to city parks, as dynamic learning environments. A key outcome is the establishment of outdoor STEM trails by the teachers, providing ongoing, experiential learning opportunities for students. This methodology fosters an immersive and engaging learning experience, promoting a love of discovery in students.
Assessment:
The course utilizes ongoing formative assessment techniques, such as quizzes, team presentations, and reflective journaling. As a culmination of their learning, participants will create a final project that showcases the skills and knowledge acquired. Upon completion, attendees are invited to fill out an evaluation form to provide feedback on the course's impact and effectiveness.
Certification details
This course is designed and run in accordance with the Erasmus+ Key Action 1 Quality Standards for Courses.
Participants are required to attend a minimum of 80% of the course sessions. Additionally, active engagement and participation in group discussions and practical activities are encouraged to enhance the learning experience.
Upon the successful completion of the training course, participants will obtain;
- Certificate of Attendance: includes the name of the participant and the trainer, the location, the dates, learning hours and competences acquired.
