A Tale of Three Countries

Pupils from partner schools Primary School Les Hisbiscus and René Verdier Primary School in Ducos, (Martinique) France, Skanör Falsterbo Montessori School in Falsterbo, Sweden, and Palaio Faliro 8th Primary School in Athens, Greece, will be encouraged to reflect on the values taught by the tales, myths, and legends from their parts of the world. From their readings and guided by their teachers, the pupils will make comparisons between the different tales, legends and myths from Europe, Scandinavia, the Mediterranean, and the West Indies to highlight the similarities and differences in the forms of the stories, the characters, and the marvelous elements: initiation rites, magic, witches, devils, etc. The pupils will reflect on the lessons and morals in these stories, and how they can be examples in their daily life. They will question the origin of the Earth and the natural world, natural phenomena, the creation of Man and the universe, and birth and death. They will also compare the societal and environmental issues of our current world and the world described in myths, legends, and tales. Ideally, these readings and reflections will bring a fundamental understanding of how we live at present and help the pupils imagine their future world. Will it be a world of peace or in war? Will we destroy nature or preserve it? Are we harming animals and their environment or protecting them? Shall we continue to waste the Earth's resources, or can find sustainable solutions?
