THE STEAM EDUCATION PARADIGM - DEVELOPING PHYSICAL COMPUTING APPLICATIONS WITH ARDUINO 5 DAYS IN ATHENS

This course is aimed at teachers and all those who are interested in learning and/or improving their STEAM skills. The participants will learn the basic principles of STEAM education and how to apply them in their classes. They will build interactive systems that can sense and respond to the world around them by practicing physical computing principles using Arduino. OID in Greece: E10049405.

Description

The course consists of 25 didactic hours and includes the following modules:

  • Introduction of participants, warm ups and ice breakers, outline of the programme,
  • The principles and methodology of STEAM education
  • Introduction to Physical Computing and the Arduino platform
  • Workshop 1: Playing with LEDs
  • Workshop 2: Sensors and Actuators
  • Workshop 3: Building and Internet of Things (IoT) application - A simple weather station.
  • Online tools for collaboration in ICT projects, eTwinning, School Education Platform
  • Individual support
  • Presentation of outcomes, discussion, evaluation and closing session
  • Teambuilding and networking activities
  • City tour with a licenced tour guide

Learning objectives

  • Developing and improving the participants’ knowledge and skills related to STEAM education.
  • Enhancing understanding of the potential STEAM methodology has in education and opportunities it provides.
  • Providing and exercising creative ideas and practical resources for the successful implementation of STEAM in education.
  • Developing communication, collaboration, presentation, problem-solving, negotiation, critical and creative thinking skills.
  • Enhancing professional skills through mastering tools for virtual communication and collaboration, design, and publishing.
  • Improving English fluency (the official language of the course).
  • Promoting intercultural awareness.
  • Sharing experiences and use of STEAM education paradigms from different organizations in order to help each of us to be more effective in our work.
  • Developing the online collaboration platform for preparation, dissemination, and networking in order to develop future partnerships and projects.

Methodology & assessment

Methodology is based mainly on practical workshops, demonstrations and presentations of examples of good practice as well as discussions and experience comparisons. Participants will have the opportunity to get to know the theoretical background as well as go through a series of practical projects in order to develop skills for applying STEAM education in their classes. Assessment is carried out by the course trainer on a day to day basis and the learning outcomes are recorded on the Europass Mobility Document on request.

Materials, digital tools & other learning resources

All the materials will be made available to the participants in digital form upon completion of the course.

Certification details

Certificate complies with the guidelines of the Erasmus+ programme and includes the topic, number of didactic hours, dates and location of the course. We can list the record of learning outcomes on the Europass Mobility Document on request of participants. In case. A participant requires a specific format of certificate we can accommodate that if requested at least one week before the start of the course. It is necessary to attend at least 80% of the hours in order to receive the certificate.

  • Course package content:

    The course fee includes tuition and materials for the course and all administrative work. There is also one cultural activity for networking and socialising covered by the course fee.  

    Accommodation, meals and transportation are not included and participants are expected to organize and cover for these expenses by themselves. 

    We do not charge anything extra apart from the 400 EUR course fee.

  • Cancellation & changes:

    Free cancellation up to 30 days before the start. After that, the reservation is not refundable. Changes in name and profile of the participant are possible any time before the start of the course. In case of extraordinary circumstances, we will offer a free re-scheduling to be used within 6 months.

  • Additional information:
    The options and conditions for change and cancellation, and the policy in case of unforeseen circumstances (force majeure).
