The OECD Centre for Skills and the European Commission Joint Research Centre joined forces to examine the environmental sustainability competence of students across EU and OECD countries. The first paper presents a conceptual framework defining environmental sustainability competence and then reveals how factors including gender and socio-economic background can affect young people’s environmental awareness. The second paper presents the environmental sustainability toolbox and considers the degree to which schools have equipped students with the competences to achieve a greener future.
