Erasmus Diary(day 3: Thursday, 10th of October 2022)

Dear Erasmus diary

written by Benjamin (class 9, Wilhelmshaven)

Today we went to the mountain Pilion and visited a museum about the painter Theophilos. The house where he used to live was an old house which had paintings inside about Greek mythology and about history of Volos and Greece. The house has not been restored and has remained in its original condition with the paintings that Theophilos had made himself.

After that we went for a hiking session on the "path of the centaurs" which was quite difficult.

Pilion - path of the centaurs

It was not even an hour but it felt much longer.

The teachers wanted to go up higher but many students had no walking shoes on; so the teachers said that we were allowed to go down again now. Now we had a good impression of the mountain where (according to ancient Greek mythology) Cheiron the centaur had lived and where Jason could stay when he had to flee from Iolkos (ancient name for Volos) and his bad uncle Pelias. We really were at the place of the story behind the board game which we are creating together during this week!

On the way where we went down to the bus we saw many fountains where you could trink water from.

After that we drove a little bit higher to the village Makrinitsa where we all had one and a half hours of free time.

Makrinitsa - a village in the mountains

Up there you had an impressive view of the city of Volos and all the mountains around Volos.

Pilion and the bay of Volos

Also the village itself was very interesting with its old stone houses and the little marked square with its enourmous trees.

Most of us bought some souvenirs. After the free time in the village we went down by bus to our partners' school in Volos.

When we arrived in Volos the teachers came together and had a meeting where they talked about everything that is important for our Erasmus project. The students had free time for the rest of the day and spent time with our Greek partners. My classmate Ida and I, for example, had the chance to take part in a handball training session. My "host father" is the trainer of the handball team.

That was our Thursday.
