Developing speaking skills in cross-cultural classrooms" provides an overview of the historical evolution of second/foreign language education by contrasting different approaches and methods throughout time. It explores the impact of current trends on L2/FL teaching and learning, bridging the gap between theory and practice in real communicative situations.
Description
The primary focus of the course is on developing language teachers’ knowledge of planning and implementing classroom activities that promote learners’ oral and intercultural competences. Accordingly, the course aims to integrate Task and Project-Based Learning (TBL / PBL) with Intercultural Language learning (ICL) in a world of many languages.

Learning objectives
- Understand the role of second/foreign languages in the international context as a catalyst for the development of communicative competence, in general, and oral interaction/production skills, in particular;
- Be familiar with reference documents in language education;
- Prioritize building rapport to create communicative learning and teaching environments
- Enhance oral interaction/production skills by integrating pronunciation, stress, and intonation;
- Recognize accuracy and fluency as essential components of oral proficiency
- Emphasize meaning-focused and student-centered strategies for the development of oral interaction/production skills;
- Develop a toolkit of didactical resources to promote the development of oral interaction/production skills.
Methodology & assessment
Brainstorming, discussions, debates, and collaborative work;
Practical activities for the development of students’ oral and intercultural competences;
Final work presentation and exchange of good practices;
Toolkit development.
Course assessment includes the following criteria:
Active participation during training sessions – 20/100;
Motivation and involvement during the work – 20/100;
Accomplishment of practical tasks/activities and content production – 40/100;
Final individual reflection upon acquired knowledge and skills – 20/100.
