Beyond the red pen: AI in student assessment
How can you use AI in student assessment while keeping meaningful evidence of learning visible? Rethink assessment and use AI ethically, equitably and responsibly.
Description
This course takes educators on a three-stage journey: from awareness of what AI-assisted assessment means within established pedagogical and European Union regulatory frameworks, through the application of practical skills in redesigning assessment tasks and co-creating assessment tasks, to responsibility – developing the critical capacity needed to address issues of equity, bias and transparency while keeping professional judgement at the centre of every assessment decision.
Educators leave with a practical toolkit and a personal learning journal grounded in their own context, students and values.
Learning objectives
- identify the opportunities and limitations of AI in student assessment by exploring assessment principles, current AI capabilities and relevant European Union frameworks
- design AI-aware assessment tasks and use AI to support assessment design through authentic classroom examples and practical activities
- reconsider assessment approaches to ensure they provide meaningful evidence of student learning in the age of AI through reflection and assessment redesign
- evaluate the equity risks and ethical implications of AI assessment tools for diverse student populations
- develop a personal AI assessment plan, documented through a learning journal maintained throughout the course
