Building a skilled and resilient Europe: The European Year of Skills 2023

The European Year of Skills was launched on 9 May by the European Commission with the aim of supporting the labour market during the green and digital transition.

Currently, three quarters of companies in the EU report difficulties in finding workers with the necessary skills, while only 37% of adults undertake training on a regular basis. Therefore, the European Year of Skills wants to put professional training centre stage.

For 12 months, emphasis will be put on linking people’s ambitions and talents to job possibilities, investment in training and enhancing chances for skill development. The European year builds on skills such as digital skills and learning to learn which are already taught in schools. It also highlights the importance of the vocational and education training (VET) sector that needs to be properly empowered and equipped to provide accurate, inclusive and accessible professional training to all.

How to take part in the European Year of Skills

Interested parties can join events and activities organised near them or register their own initiative.

VET organisations are invited to join the European Vocational Skills week 2023 on 23-27 October. The week will bring organisations and individuals together to share experiences, learn new skills and find funding opportunities.
