The resource crisis, the severe climate changes, the lack of an environmental policy at the local level force us to take measures and to educate our students, future European citizens, to under-stand the actual situation and take measure to protect the environment. Last summer heatwaves, wildfires and floods and their helpless victims have showed, once again, the severe consequences of climate change throughout the world. For decades, Humans polluted without realising the long-term damages they were entailing. Almost simultaneously, the development of petrochemicals have made plastics likely irreplaceable in our daily lives. Nowadays, most of people know emissions of greenhouse gases should be strongly reduced. Plastic pollution on land and in the oceans and the spread of microplastics absorbed by living beings are clearly denounced by scientists. Therefore, protecting the environment should be everyone’s business. Some people are game for helping the environment but they often feel their efforts like a drop in the ocean. In addition to the environmental crisis, people tend to be less tolerant of others. Our students will live until the end of the 21st century in a pluralistic society. Our objectives are not only to make them aware that our environment is threatened, to encourage them to adopt and promote habits that reduce the carbon footprint and plastic pollution, but also to accept the differences of others. By carrying out online and in situ activities, our students will discover their peers’ culture and how to produce carbon-free energy and biodegradable plastic. This hybrid project will help them to become eco-responsible European citizens.
