Many, many centuries ago, in another geological era, the American and Asian continents were not separated by the sea, as they are today between Alaska and Siberia. Instead, they were joined by a strip of land called Beringia. Today Beringia no longer exists, it is a submerged land, and the stretch of sea separating America and Asia is called the Bering Strait. Along that land the ancestors of the Indians left Mongolia 20 thousand years ago and reached America, giving rise to the Native American peoples. Today there are 1.5 million American Indians in the States: about 300 tribes and federal reservations with different languages, traditions, and customs. It is a deep and multifaceted culture that has slowly been transformed by the many attempts to assimilate them by American culture. This project addresses one of the burning topics of modern society, that of migration, a topic often polluted by misunderstanding, misinformation, and lack of information. The purpose of this project is to provide support for subject areas such as history, social studies, and citizenship to study the complex connection of Native Americans to their land and traditions in a journey that takes the viewer across several U.S. states, including North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Louisiana, and North Carolina
