According to an analysis by Business Insider, the fashion industry emits more carbon emissions than flights and maritime shipping combined. Harmful chemicals found in apparel, heavy metals, toxicants put humans and ecosystems in jeopardy. It dries up water sources and pollutes rivers and streams, while 85% of all textiles go to dumps each year. According to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, emissions from textile manufacturing alone are projected to skyrocket by 60% by 2030. Workers' rights on the other hand are almost non-existent. With this project the students will gain a better understanding of the issue of fast fashion and its impact on the environment, garment workers and consumers. Through communication, collaboration, sharing ideas and opinions and as members of the community they will actively participate in a solution-finding process.
