Highlights of the school's history
A primary school in Sungurlare was opened for the first time in 1886 at the suggestion of Dimitar Ruschev, clerk at the municipality. It was housed in an old Turkish house and all the necessary supplies were provided by the municipality, and the first qualified teacher was Dimitar Stanilov Kolarov. The school has four departments /classes/. Classes began on the first of September and ended on the eleventh of May. In the 1889/1890 school year, there were already four teachers. In 1893/1894, there are already data on the number of students - they were 100. In the same academic year, the first building designed specifically for a school was built.
It is named "St. St. Cyril and Methodius". In the 1896/97 school year, the first junior high school class or current fifth class was opened. Already in the first year, 25 children graduate. A Sunday and evening school was also opened. In the 1898/99 school year, there were 172 students. During the initial period of the school's existence, the following teachers worked here: Krastyu Mihailov, Valko Apostolov, Stefana Bozhilova, Ana Dodeva, Chenko Hristov, Petya Mihailova,Zheni Bozhilova, Mincho Vasilev, Elena Petrova and others.
In the 1909/10 school year, there was already a full junior high school up to the third junior high school class. There are 286 students in total, and apart from Sungurlare, children from all other nearby villages also study here. Certificates of completion of junior high school were handed out on a solemn morning.
In the autumn of 1914, due to negligence, the only school building in Sungurlare caught fire and burned down in just a few hours. Students study in private houses and shops. Conditions are bad for learning. During the wars, the teaching staff is irregular, the students are malnourished and poorly clothed, often absent from school hours because they help at home and in the fields.After 8 years of adversity, in 1922/23 the school building was rebuilt with 12 school rooms. The teachers decided to also engage in theater work and often staged plays.In 1924, Dobri Kelevedzhiev was appointed director, who continued to equip physics, chemistry, and history classrooms and procured the necessary aids and equipment for the school.A school choir is formed, a piano is bought, concerts are given.
On May 15, 1932, the foundation stone of the "Hristo Botev" neighborhood school was laid, which was finally completed in 1933. On February 14, 1934, Vasil Topalov donated BGN 100,000 to the school, wishing to support two students from the interest on this amount. The fund is named "Donka and Vasil Topalovi". From 1940 to 1944. classes are conducted in a military environment. Lack of income, illnesses, mobilization of teachers reduce the effectiveness of educational preparation during this period.
In 1945, the Sungurlare High School was opened. This fact was greeted with great joy by both the people of Sungurlar and the residents of all the neighboring villages, because their children study here. The first school day for the high school was January 16, 1945. for 249 students. Director is Dobri Kelvedzhiev. The training takes place in two shifts. A kindergarten was opened at the school. In March 1946, a decision was made to build a second floor and a gym at the "Hristo Botev" school. The completion was completed in 1948. In 1950, the school was called "Hristo Botev" Secondary Unified School.
In 1955, the school fence was built and the school yard was planted with pines and lindens. In 1959/60, a law came into force for a closer connection between school and life, and special classes in tractor mechanics, tailoring and viticulture were introduced for the tenth and eleventh grades. Metalworking and woodworking workshops are equipped.
The school in Sungurlare was opened in 1953. Forestry and Climate School, and in 1948 – 1958 Winemaking School. Agricultural technical school was opened in 1958. In 1967, SPTU - Secondary Vocational Technical School was opened.
Since 1974, the school has been named ESPU "Hristo Botev". In the academic year 1983/84, the UPC with the specialty "Metal Cutting Machine Operator" was opened. In 1986, the school had 55 teachers and 700 students in 25 classes from I to XI grades. Since 1989, the school has been named Hristo Botev Secondary School.
