World Microplastics Day: Reflecting on the Lasting Impact of Plastic Pollution.

As part of our Erasmus+ project Sowing Change (SCH): Roots for Inclusion and Self-Knowledge through a Sustainable European Nature, students at IES Laxeiro marked World Microplastics Day with a thought-provoking environmental installation.

Using a bare tree as a powerful symbol, students displayed everyday plastic waste and packaging together with the estimated time each item takes to decompose in nature. This visual representation highlighted a striking reality: while many plastic products are used for only a few minutes, they remain in the environment for hundreds or even thousands of years, gradually breaking down into microplastics that threaten ecosystems, wildlife and human health.

The activity encouraged students to reflect on their own consumption habits and reinforced the importance of reducing single-use plastics, recycling responsibly and making more sustainable choices in everyday life.

Through initiatives like this, Sowing Change continues to inspire environmental awareness, critical thinking and active citizenship, reminding us that every small action can contribute to protecting our planet for future generations.
