Jaunpiebalga Secondary school, founded in 1946, is the only one school in Jaunpiebalga territory. 360 pupils, aged 2-19, study in our school and 57 teachers work here. 17 students learn in special educational programmes, other in general education programmes. Social environment is full of contrasts. The most serious problem is unemployment. In every tenth family one or both parents work abroad. Grandparents, relatives or neighbours take care of children. Work abroad is also one of the reasons for families to divorce. Finances earned by parents abroad are mainly used for existential needs, but the most for pupil’s social and personal growth, motivation for higher goals are to be realized at school. Side by side live and study also children from well situated families and pupils from orphans’ houses. Our students are mainly Latvians, but the number of students is also other nationalities like Russians. Our school offers qualitative education due to educational programmes. There are implemented 5 educational programmes in Jaunpiebalga Secondary school: Pre-school educational programme, General secondary education, General basic education programme and also 2 different programmes for pupils with special needs. There are great opportunities to learn in non-formal education that provides our school. We have Young Guards organization, career choice. There are two more programmes in non- formal education- Environmental education programme and Environmental creative workshop. Our school is one of the first 10 Health Promoting schools in Latvia since 1993
