We met at BER airport at 8.30 am. After checking in our bags, we said goodbye to our parents and went through security and passport control. Everything went fine. Our plane took off around 11.00 am. The flight was very pleasant, we could watch a film and there was even a small lunch. We landed in Istanbul at 3.30 pm, the time difference was two hours. After we had our suitcases, we took a small shuttle bus directly to the school. Our Turkish host families were already waiting for us. Since we had already spoken on the phone and written to each other beforehand, we recognised each other immediately and the welcome was very, very warm. We spent the evening with our host families.

In the morning we went to school for the first time with our host sisters. All the people involved in our My Colourful World project met in the small gym. Everyone was very warmly welcomed to the school. We were told about the school system, Turkey and Istanbul. Some of the children told us about famous Turkish personalities. Everyone received presents. We were divided into different coloured groups and worked on our comic strip with a programme or had sports or music. We also designed our aprons. After lunch, the groups changed and we also had free time. Everyone made new friends. In the afternoon, we met with Mrs. Kerscher, Deniz and Mr. Gröger for a team meeting. All the girls told us about their great experiences. At the end of our first day at school, we had a great dinner in the cafeteria, where our host parents had brought lots of delicious food. Around 7 p.m., we returned to our families, quite exhausted. A very exciting and beautiful day came to an end.

After arriving at school, we had a short team meeting. All the girls told us about their great experiences in the host families. Then we got our pocket money because we were going on an excursion in the morning. We set off together with the Italian children. We talked to them and laughed a lot. Our first destination was a great toy museum. Nearby, we stopped at a stylish café, ate a simit and ordered a delicious drink. In the museum, Lavin and Simge started to create a small figurine with a very special, typical Turkish technique called "Ebru". Aysenur, Zeynep and Lorin went to see the exhibition first. Later we changed. In the end, we liked all the figures very much. We then walked to the very famous Orthodox Christian church of St. George. It was very impressive. We all lit a candle in memory of our deceased family members. During the walk afterwards, Deniz wanted to show us the filming location for the series "Cukur", but unfortunately there was not enough time. We bought our first souvenirs and all chose a delicacy from a Turkish bakery. When we got back to school, we had lunch and then made puppets. At 4.30 pm, we headed home to our host families.

This day also started with a team meeting at school. Sightseeing was on the agenda today. In the city centre, we got a varied impression of Turkish culture. The traffic on the streets of Istanbul cannot be compared to that in Berlin. In the morning and evening, many streets are so congested that we spent a lot of time in traffic jams. There were honking horns everywhere and an unbelievable number of cars parked close together. After arriving at our destination, we walked through a bazaar to the Topkapi Palace. It was very impressive to see so many buildings and green spaces. All the girls listened to the English and Turkish explanations and learned a lot of new things. People from all over the world met here. We even met a German group of young people. It was dark in the cistern and different light effects gave us a very special impression. After lunch in a very famous Köfte restaurant, we had to queue for a while in front of the Hagia Sofia. We learned that this mosque is very old and has been rebuilt several times over the years and used in different ways. It was a church, a mosque, a museum and now a mosque again. The end of today's excursion was a stroll through the bazaar, where some girls bought souvenirs.

As there were difficulties with two girls in the families on Wednesday, we had a slightly longer team meeting. Everything was cleared up and we started into another exciting day. With the buses we went to the aquarium. Here we looked at many interesting animals in our OWG group. We were especially impressed by the sharks. The girls took many funny photos. They also took advantage of the many sculptures we found there. Afterwards, we all had time to go shopping and were very happy about it. At lunch together, all the girls chose what they would like to eat in the huge restaurant area. Deniz used the time to visit the nearby training ground of his favourite club, Galatasaray Istanbul. He met some players there, Bafetimbi Gomis was particularly likeable. When we got back to school, all the children prepared manti together. This was a great pleasure for everyone. As on all the other days, we went back to our Turkish families at around 4.30 pm. Zeynep and Simge brought flowers to their host families as an apology. They were very happy about that.

We started the school day again around 8.30am with a team meeting. After that, we had sports and music workshops in our colour groups. Afterwards, we went on a treasure hunt in the school building and in the schoolyard. After lunch, we went by minibus to the town hall. There, in a large theatre hall with a stage, our Erasmus graduation ceremony took place. Everyone received a certificate. We were particularly impressed by the dance performance of a Turkish school class. Finally, it was time to "pack our bags" on the last evening in our host families.
