Internet Ethics
Internet ethics are the rules that define acceptable or unacceptable behaviours on the internet. Especially in the last 10 years, it has become very important with the widespread use of the internet as a means of communication. Unfortunately, the importance of internet ethics and the concepts of internet crimes are still not fully established in our country. In general, writing sentences that are offences when we say them with our language or disturb others over the internet is also a crime and against internet ethics. In addition, the situation described as spammer, which means sending a message in large numbers, is also against internet ethics.
How can I avoid becoming a ‘spammer’?
The eTwinning Desktop forums have sometimes been the target of ‘spam messages’. The high volume of Partner-finding messages from Teachers can be very confusing for the Community as a whole and frustrating for others.
We ask all eTwinning users to refrain from posting the same message in different forums, regardless of the topic of the Teachers' Room or eTwinning Group. Each Room and Group has a topic and a purpose (clearly stated in the title and description) and is not for finding partners or over-posting. If you are a member, we recommend that you read your messages carefully before posting, as you cannot delete or correct them afterwards.
eTwinning Desktop offers you all the possibilities to start or participate in discussions on specific topics and also foresees additional tools to make highly sophisticated searches for possible partners. In this context, less noise means more success!
By using the tools correctly and properly and identifying the topics of different forums, you will be able to participate in discussions and find partners for future projects effectively and efficiently.
If you think that someone is ‘spamming’, feel free to send them a message pointing in the right direction, i.e. to a different area of the Desktop.
Information Security:
As an online network of schools in Europe, eTwinning's top priority is to ensure that it operates in a secure and ethical manner. As the vast majority of work is done online, teachers and students are assured of a protected space where their work can remain private and inaccessible to external users.
The eTwinning platform has areas where Internet security plays a major role:
- eTwinning Desktop: Teachers can connect, network, share resources and plan for future project work.
- eTwinning TwinSpace: Teachers and students work together in a collaborative project.
Both of these restricted spaces and their associated tools are protected by username and password. The eTwinning team ensures that this level of security is of the highest level, even for teachers and students working from home outside school hours.
Non-teacher users or those who create user accounts under false names will be deleted from the portal. We would like to remind you that such behaviour on the portal constitutes a crime in terms of information security and internet ethics.
