Netiquette Traffic Light
The teachers will begin in which the children will be asked: How will we work with our partners if they are so far away? (guide the students so their answers relate to the use of ICT) How should we act, as if we were talking to them in person or as if we were talking to a machine?, how would we like them to talk to us?
Subsequently, the children will be taught about Netiquette: the basic rules of courtesy on the Internet, and emphasis will also be placed on vital aspects such as privacy, respect for intellectual property and cyberbullying. The children will be able to reinforce these concepts through games, murals, videos (there are some examples in different languages in the resources section).
Finally, each class will create its own "Netiquette Traffic Light" where netiquette and cybersecurity rules are colour-coded:
Green-I can continue: be polite, respect people’s opinions, share, write clearly (no capital letters), etc.
Amber-Time to think: am I waiting for my turn?, have I asked for permission?
Red-Stop, something isn't right: don't accept friend requests from strangers, don’t share personal information, don’t post photos with other people without their permission, tell a teacher if someone isn't treating you or other classmates well, or if you've seen something or someone you don't like.
The children will express these actions by writing or drawing them. From then on, when a conflict arises, instead of scolding, the teacher simply points to the traffic light and asks: "What color are we now? What should we do to get back to green?"
