CODE OF CONDUCT - Safety
eTwinning is a platform that helps you hone your skills, expand your professional network, and enhance the skills of your students. Therefore, the spirit of eTwinning is based on mutual understanding and respect. Events, messages, posts, and everything published on eTwinning must adhere to the following general principles:
Be inclusive. Everyone's opinions and views are always welcome and allowed.
Do not insult other eTwinners as individuals.
Do not attack or incite violence against individuals based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, or gender, and/or as members of a country, group, or minority group.
We make every effort to protect people from abuse and spam on eTwinning, but as an active and inclusive community, we rely on you to help us maintain a positive attitude and reduce unwanted incidents.
Users who do not adhere to this Code of Conduct will be warned and, in some cases, banned from the platform.
We therefore encourage you to report them if necessary.
If you encounter posts, events, or comments in journals or forums, receive a private message, or see content that is offensive, infringes copyright, or deemed inappropriate, you can use the "Report" button and provide the reasons for reporting. Your message will be handled by the support team.
The following rules must be followed by all eTwinners:
1. Misuse of the internal messaging system
Refrain from sending excessive messages to teachers you do not work with. Before contacting a user: check their profile; check if they are available for projects; ensure your message is relevant. Do not send the same exact message to multiple eTwinners.
2. Use of eTwinning for commercial purposes
Using the platform for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited. Any company, initiative, event, or software with commercial purposes will be removed, as will their access to the platform itself.
3. Spam on the forums
The eTwinning Live partner forums generate thousands of messages. Make sure your message is relevant to the thread's topic. Before posting a new post, check for other relevant messages and respond to them. Help us keep these forums relevant to improving collaboration!
4. Irrelevant or inappropriate comments on people's posts
When posting a comment on someone else's profile, make sure it is relevant to the user. Comments must be intended for individuals and relevant to the user's position. Do not post the same comment to multiple users.
5. Random contact requests and project invitations
Avoid asking eTwinners to be part of your contacts or join your project without prior communication. Make sure you have a reasonable and manageable number of contacts on your list. Do you want to follow someone's updates? Follow them instead.
6. Inviting to Events
Avoid inviting your contacts to events you organize unless you are sure they are allowed to attend. Random invitations to events organized by your school will be considered spam.
7. Direct Threats, Bullying, and Harassment
eTwinning does not tolerate bullying or harassment. If you are a victim of cyberbullying or being threatened, report the message or contact your National Support Service. Please note that anyone caught bullying or harassing other members of the platform may be permanently banned from eTwinning.
8. Intellectual Property
Make sure that the content you upload to the platform does not infringe any copyrights. Before sharing photos, videos, documents, or other resources, ensure you have the right to do so. The eTwinning platform cannot host videos – you must first upload your video to YouTube, DailyMotion, or Vimeo, and then paste the link into eTwinning. Also, be sure to review their copyright policies.
9. Impersonation
You may not impersonate other people or groups/organizations you do not represent in a way that is intended to, or does, mislead, confuse, or deceive others.
10. Students (minors)
eTwinning takes the privacy and safety of students seriously. Avoid posting photos of students on your eTwinning Live profile, TwinSpace, Groups, etc. In this case, ensure you have parental consent or that the students are not identifiable.
11. Private and Sensitive Information
Consider the content you post that relates to others. You should not share your or other eTwinners' private information—such as personal phone numbers and addresses, credit card details, or other private information—or intimate photos or videos. Always think twice before posting!
