Our eTwinning project was started when two primary school teachers from Slovenia decided to make a cross curricular connection between English and art. We found European Schools that would enjoy exchanging greeting cards and letters via snail mail. We believe the best way to overcome stereotypes and ethnic divisions is by learning about and trying to understand other cultures. We would like to offer our pupils the opportunity to use their knowledge of English with the purpose of teaching someone about their own culture and learning about other cultures with the help of creativity. Art will be used as a medium of cultural expression that will help our pupils communicate and form new connections with pupils from different cultures. We will use the received mail to discuss interculturality during English and other lessons. Our pupils will interact with their pen pals for the duration of the project. After and during the project we will actively disseminate our acquired knowledge among pupils, school staff and the wider community. We hope our students will learn to understand and accept other cultures, overcome stereotypes and ethnic divisions and acquire skills to help them navigate through the ever-changing world.
