Maya Merve Kenan- Zekeriye Konukoglu Primary School

My pupils first made a seed bank by recycling waste materials. We placed the seeds in the seed bank for a week, then on our activity day we planted these seeds from our seed banks, watered them and decorated them. Afterwards, each pupil gave their own plants a name.

WORKING TIME

We planted trees at school today and learned how to protect nature 🌱🌍

🌱 Growing Values, Growing Nature
In this activity, each student planted a seed and gave it a special meaning by writing a value such as honesty, kindness, generosity, and respect on it.
As the seeds begin to grow, we are reminded that values, just like plants, need care, patience, and love to flourish. 🌿
Through this meaningful experience, our students learned that nurturing both nature and good character helps build a better future.
We are now excitedly watching our seeds grow, along with the beautiful values they represent. 💚🌍

Our students recently took a break from their textbooks to connect with nature through a hands-on seed-planting activity. This initiative was designed to teach them about biology, sustainability, and the patience required to nurture a living thing from scratch.

The Process

Equipped with biodegradable pots, organic soil, and a variety of seeds—ranging from vibrant marigolds to golden wheat—the students followed these steps:

  • Preparation: Learning how to aerate the soil and fill the pots correctly.
  • Sowing: Carefully placing the seeds at the right depth, a delicate task that required focus.
  • Nurturing: Adding the first drop of water and finding the perfect sunny spot on the classroom windowsill.

Why It Matters

This wasn't just about gardening; it was a lesson in environmental stewardship. By getting their hands dirty, students gained a deeper understanding of:

  1. The Life Cycle: Witnessing firsthand how a tiny seed transforms into a plant.
  2. Responsibility: Realizing that their daily care directly impacts the plant's survival.
  3. Patience: Understanding that growth takes time and cannot be rushed by a screen or an app.
