I WILL PROTECT THE WORLD - FOURTH PLAN
The activity “I Will Protect the World”, part of the Green Souls and STEAM eTwinning project, aims to develop students’ environmental awareness, creativity, problem‑solving abilities, and 21st‑century skills through the construction of a Forest Protection Vehicle Model. The plan is built around a real‑world problem: waste accumulation in forests, the danger it poses to living beings, and children’s limited awareness of waste separation and emergency situations. To address this, students are guided to design a simple vehicle model capable of collecting and sorting waste, helping them understand how technology and creativity can contribute to environmental protection. The learning process begins with an engaging story about Nail, Maple, and the forest fairy Spirea Sorescu, who discover pollution in the forest. Motivated to help, the children decide to create a vehicle that can collect and separate waste. This narrative introduces the environmental issue in an accessible way and encourages students to think critically about solutions. During the exploration phase, students build a model using cardboard, plastic caps, and simple tools. They simulate waste collection with small spoons, measure the amount of waste using rulers and measuring cups, and record their findings in tables and graphs, integrating mathematical skills into the activity. They also write short texts about protecting nature and share drawings, stories, and suggestions on Padlet. The deepening phase encourages students to reflect on the importance of clean forests, the harmful effects of battery waste, the role of technological tools in raising environmental awareness, and the impact of air pollution on children’s health. In the design phase, students construct the Forest Protection Vehicle Model by preparing a stable base, adding compartments for different types of waste, attaching a small scoop for collection, and decorating the vehicle with nature‑themed elements.
