eReading together ‼️ Read to Think, Think to Choose.

The main challenges of our time determine a serious reflection on the role Books play in Critical Thinking building. Reading implies Reasoning and develops cognitive ability by eliciting concentration, spirit of research, creativity and discerning skills. Books prompt curiosity and bring people to experience new horizons; in fact Literature is not only a tool to gain knowledge. It shapes “new worlds” by imagination and, in many cases, predicts future scenarios. Books also have a social impact, shaping both individual and collective identity. They offer different perspectives on reality, break stereotypes down avoiding the risk of “a single story” (as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie explains), and give everyone the chance to feel represented and included in the collective story telling. Reading stories expands vocabulary: readers explore the expressive strength of language and gain the keys to understand the world around. Reading helps self knowledge and establishes relationships by connecting people together. All of this makes Books the most appropriate tool to decode the complexity of current times. Citizenship, inclusion, digital literacy competencies, debating skills, ability to formulate questions and find solutions, decision making, are some of the goals Literature can support.
