This day was full of activities, inspiring workshops and practical classes that enriched the participants' experience, while strengthening international cooperation in ​​developing students' mathematical skills.

 

Day 2 – Workshops: Robotics@school, “Buiding a Nautical Quadrant” & “Candles in a box with GeoGebra”

 

Workshop: Robotics@school

At the beginning of the day, students took part in English classes, which not only allowed them to improve their communication skills, but also provided an additional opportunity for intercultural exchange of experiences.

Then there were robotics workshops, which ended with robot races.

Workshop: “Building a nautical quadrant”

The next workshop focused on the construction of a quadrant, a tool used in ancient times in navigation and astronomy.  Its goal was to construct a quadrant to measure an angular height of an elevated point.

Each student was given a script and material needed to build a quadrant. Later, the students left the classroom and, using the angle meter, had to determine the height of an object.

 

 

GeoGebra Workshop: “Candles in a box”.

After a lunch break, project participants took part in workshops using the GeoGebra application so as to design and generate three identical spheres. Therefore, the students were presented with a task in which they had to study two possible packages for wrapping sets of three spherical candles, shaped like a parallelepiped, where the candles would be tangent to the boxes.

The objective of this workshop was to use Geogebra to build the packaging models and, using the dimensions of each one, to conclude which model would be most effective for placing the three candles.

Despite the challenge, the students performed well, demonstrating their skill and commitment to the math tasks. The afternoon was spent spending time with Portuguese peers.
