Italy: la campana

Campana.

Thousands of years ago, Roman soldiers played “Campana” to test their strength and speed. Today, however, “Campana” is a playground game.

Here are the rules:

Draw the path on the ground using chalk. The squares should be big enough for one foot and to make sure a stone thrown at the square doesn't come out too easily.

The "10" is designated as a stop area.

Throw a flattened stone into box "1". The object you throw must land inside the box without touching its edges or bouncing off. If it doesn't land within the edges, you lose your turn and pass the stone to the next person. If it doesn't land in the box, it moves on to the next stage.

Jump between the squares, avoiding the one where the stone went. For each square there is only one foot. You cannot have more than one foot on the ground at any time, unless there are two numbered boxes next to each other. In that case, you can put both feet down at the same time. Collect your stone on the way back. When you get to the last number, turn around, staying on one foot, and jump in the reverse order.

Pass the stone to the next player. If you have completed the path with the stone on the first square, then on the next turn, throw the stone on the second square. Your goal is to complete the path by throwing the stone on all the squares. The first player who does this,  wins the game!

Traditional games in Greece

Broken Telephone

You can play the game with as many players as you want. Everyone sits in a line and the first player whispers a word really fast in the next player’s ear (you can’t repeat the word twice in the same round). The last person in the line has to say whatever he or she heard out loud to everyone. The point of the game is for the last player to say the word the first player said.1, 2, 3,

Red Light

A player turns around and he or she looks away from the other players and says «1, 2, 3, red light» When the player says «red light». he turns around to look at the other players who SHOULD NOT be moving. If a player is moving they lose. The point of the game is for the other players to touch the back of the player who says «1, 2, 3». The players can move when he says «1, 2, 3» but they must stop moving when he says «red light».

Name, animal, thing, city, job, food

Every country has a paper and players write on top of the paper the categories: name, animal, thing, city, job and food. Of course there can be more categories added. One player starts saying the English alphabet quietly so no one can hear him or her. Then someone from another team says «Stop». The player who says the alphabet should stop and say out loud the letter the other player stopped him at. Then every team starts writing a name, an animal, a thing etc starting from that letter. For example: if the player stops at the letter «M» the teams should write a name, an animal etc starting from the letter «M».

Music Chairs

We put chairs in a circle (the chairs should be one less so one of the players lose) and the music starts playing. When the music stops the players should sit quickly on the chairs. The player who is left is eliminated. This keeps going until only one chair and two players are left. The player sits down wins.

Nuts

We place 8-10 nuts in a straight line at a distance of 15 cm from each other. The players, with a bottle try from a distance of 3 meters to hit the nuts. The winning player is the one who has collected the most nuts.
