Color Symbolism Project – Curricular Integration
This project was integrated into the 9th and 10th grade English curriculum. The activities of the project were carried out by me in the English class.
• Language Skills: The four basic skills that students need to use when learning English—reading, writing, speaking, and listening—were supported throughout the project. Students engaged in reading about cultural meanings of colors and practiced speaking through collaborative discussions.
• Digital Competencies: Basic digital skills were taught to the students, and various Web2 tools were introduced for creating visual content and presentations. Furthermore, presentations were made on digital security and cyberbullying to ensure responsible online behavior.
• Creativity and Cultural Awareness: As the project's theme was color symbolism and art, creativity was highly promoted. Students were shown that they can use not only words but also the psychology and symbolism of colors to express themselves and their cultural identities.
• Cross-Curricular Competencies: By working in cooperation in transnational teams, students enriched their understanding of global diversity and the perspectives of others. They developed essential cross-curricular competencies, such as teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making.
