As part of the Erasmus+ project CITILANG, pupils from GO! Athena Ostend and IES Arroyo Harnina worked together on a heartwarming creative assignment. Using their partner sheet, they were assigned an ideal match, after which they could use their talent for languages and creativity to make and send a Christmas card to their partner.
A great way to connect, practise languages and make the holidays extra special!

The teachers of the CITILANG project already have a fun assignment in store for their students. More on this soon! The Erasmus+ project CITILANG is all about connecting language learning with cultural heritage and discovering European cities. The project focuses on improving language skills through hands-on and interactive activities that take place in an urban setting.

20 students were selected for the Erasmus+ project CITILANG (Citizenship and Language in a European Context): Canisia Bastin (4HS1), Jasper Borra (3LM1), Axl Creve (4LW1), Axelle De Clercq (3NS2), Ina De Croo (4ES1), Lisa De Meulemeester (4ES1), Camille De Smedt (3ES1), Marie Devos (3ES1), Lilly Florizoone (4ES1), Camille Geerseau (4EC1), Keano Jonckheere (4LS1), Anaïs Ledaine (4BI2), Luka Maertens (4LW1), Sarai Marlein (4LW1), Connor Michils (4LW1), Taziana Sel (4HS1), Elisa Tanghe (3BS2), Ella-Blue Van Craeynest (4ES1), Pauline Van Ruysseveldt (4HS1) en Titus Vandenberghe (5HWE2).
This exchange project, which emphasizes diversity, European citizenship and language improvement, is conducted in collaboration with Spanish students from IES Arroyo Harnina of Almendralejo. With CITILANG, we are building on the previous successful project “Dare to Speak” with the same Spanish partner. The project is coordinated by Joke Borra from Belgium and Ana Pérez Cabello from Spain.
The selected participants will improve their language skills in Dutch, English and Spanish through various activities such as language workshops, cultural exchanges and debates on European issues. The project also includes community service projects, simulated EU decision-making and field trips to historical and cultural sites. Through interviews, language partnerships and social media campaigns, students will share their insights and experiences.
Furthermore, collaborative projects, guest speakers and challenging competitions will deepen their understanding of European culture and citizenship. CITILANG offers a unique opportunity to improve language skills and transcend cultural boundaries.
In February 2025, we will welcome the Spanish delegation to our school. We will then make a return visit in May 2025.
The project continued from the 2nd to the 8th of May in Almendralejo, Spain, where our school, IES Arroyo Harnina, is located. In Spain, we focused on the same goals as in Ostend: linguistic improvement, citizenship, and cultural awareness. In addition to academic objectives, our students also shared many moments and laughs together. We hope this mobility fosters lasting friendships!

Also in 2024, Athena is going international!
We are pleased to select 20 Athena students from the third and fourth years of campus Pegasus and campus Olympus for the Erasmus+ project CITILANG : Citizenship and Language in a European context.
This project is being developed in cooperation with Ies Arroyo Harnina Almendralejo.
All the students of both campuses received information yesterday via Smartschool.
