Meeting in Lithuania
From 18 to 21 May 2026, students from bilingual classes 2A and 3A, accompanied by their teachers, took part in a mobility programme in Lithuania as part of the “BUILDING BRIDGES WITH HOLISTIC WELL-BEING” project. The event was hosted by our partner school in Šiauliai – Šiaulių Sporto Gimnazija. Partners from Croatia (Learn Plus NGO) and Türkiye (a partner school from Kastamonu) also participated in the mobility.
Our hospitable Lithuanian hosts provided students and teachers with a wide range of memorable experiences. A very pleasant surprise awaited us as soon as we entered the school – a traditional welcome with bread accompanied by Lithuanian music. A tour of the school, a welcome concert and a Lithuanian language lesson, during which participants had the opportunity to learn several useful words and phrases, were among the highlights of the visit. A walk around Šiauliai and a visit to the interactive “Baltic Road” educational centre were further interesting points on the programme.
During the stay in Lithuania, participants took part in the project activities “Active – Healthy – Happy” and “Move Your Body, Change Your Mind – The Physical Path to Mental Well-Being.” The mobility participants had the opportunity to discover the sports practised by students at the Lithuanian school and to test their own skills by taking part in a variety of physical activities. Šiaulių Sporto Gimnazija offers a wide range of sports, including rowing, fencing, taekwondo, wrestling, indoor hockey, football, basketball and even beach volleyball. Its modern, well-equipped sports facilities provide young Lithuanian athletes with excellent opportunities to develop their sporting careers.
The stay in Lithuania was also an excellent opportunity to learn more about the country’s culture and history. A particularly moving experience was the visit to the Hill of Crosses, located approximately 12 km from Šiauliai. It is one of Lithuania’s most unique sacred sites and has become a popular pilgrimage destination.
A trip to Vilnius, the capital and largest city of Lithuania, offered further opportunities for exploration. The mobility participants visited the spiritual heart of Lithuania – Cathedral Square, with the majestic Cathedral Basilica of St Stanislaus and St Ladislaus. They also climbed Gediminas Hill to the Upper Castle, which offers a beautiful panoramic view of the city. A visit to the Gate of Dawn, an iconic symbol of Vilnius’ spiritual heritage, was another important point on the itinerary.
The Erasmus journey also included Trakai Island Castle, Lithuania’s largest fortress, situated on an island in Lake Galvė, approximately 30 km from Vilnius. The castle attracts visitors not only with its picturesque location and impressive architecture, but also with its extensive museum collections.
The mobility in Lithuania was not only a wonderful learning experience but also an opportunity to build international friendships, strengthen intercultural understanding and discover the importance of students’ physical well-being, which was the main theme of this mobility.
