Blue Marble Science Institute:You Don't Have To Grow Up To Be A Scientist!

Today, countries with famine, millions of people left homeless due to natural disasters, endangered animals, chronic diseases increasing due to air pollution, countries where water shortages cause serious crises, animals losing their natural habitats due to the deterioration of ecological balance, melting glaciers and flood disasters occurring simultaneously in many regions of the world are the most concrete results of global warming, which is identified as the changes in the climate with the increase of greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) aiming to reduce the greenhouse gas rates in the atmosphere and keep them at a certain level due to the dangerous effects of human-induced environmental pollution on the climate is the first environmental agreement on global warming signed between governments under the leadership of the United Nations. The Paris Agreement, which was signed in 2015 and entered into force in 2016, forms the framework of the post-2020 climate change regime and aims to strengthen the global socio/economic resilience against the threat of climate change. Our country, Türkiye, as a developing country, signed the agreement, which is based on the developed/developing country classification and the understanding of all countries to assume responsibility, together with the representatives of 175 countries in the fight against climate change. One of the 7 main titles of the Climate Change Action Plan of the Ministry of Turkish National Education was determined as "Awareness-raising activities in educational institutions about the effects of climate change" and many activities were planned in line with this title. The main aim of our project is enabling our students to understand the importance of sustainability, energy efficiency, water saving, waste management and environmental awareness related to global climate changes and to raise awareness on this issue.
