Synchronous Collaborative 3D Design Activity of Traditional Astronomical Patterns
The activity took place on Thursday, 21 May 2026, at 11:30 Greece and Romania time and at 10:30 Serbia time.
We divided our students into three separate transnational groups, with students from each participating country working together in every group. For each research group, I uploaded a link from the collaborative tool Tinkercad so that we could create a 3D model of traditional astronomical pattern, which was then prepared for printing on the 3D printer we have at our school. The software Tinkercad was used for this activity, and students needed a Gmail account in order to log in and participate in the collaborative design process.
The students in each group created a composition of traditional astronomical patterns based on the photographs collected during the research, using at least one pattern from each participating country. The members of each group arranged a time that was convenient for everyone, and they logged in simultaneously to collaboratively create the composition. At the same time, a video conference between the partners took place in parallel in order to facilitate communication and collaboration among the group members.

Despite being on a school excursion, the students of Chrysohori Primary School joined the live international workshop online, demonstrating their commitment and active participation in the project.
Collaborative 3D Collection of Balkan Astronomical Patterns
The following 3D models are the final collaborative creations produced by the three transnational student teams during the synchronous Tinkercad activity.
Each team designed a unique composition by combining traditional astronomical motifs from all participating countries (Greece, Serbia and Romania). Every 3D model includes at least one astronomical pattern from each country's traditional costumes, creating a shared digital artwork that symbolizes the common cultural heritage of the Balkans.
Through this collaborative design process, students transformed their research findings into innovative digital creations, demonstrating how folklore, archaeoastronomy and STEAM education can be combined to preserve cultural heritage while fostering creativity, teamwork and intercultural understanding.
