Sharing the Road: a Shared Vision of Improving our Living Area

The world’s population is constantly increasing. To accommodate everyone, we need to build modern, sustainable cities. For all of us to survive and prosper, we need new, intelligent urban planning that creates safe, affordable and resilient cities with green and culturally inspiring living conditions. Embracing Goal 11 of the Agenda 2030, we need to provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, and children, persons with disabilities and older persons. We also need to take care of public spaces, provide access to safe and inclusive green and public spaces, as well as safe housing, and reduce our environmental impact. Moreover, it is essential to protect the planet’s natural and cultural heritage, respect the monuments and the nature. Etwinners from different countries will discover more about sustainability of cities and communities, they’ll learn about areas, which may be unknown to them, and will gradually unravel more aspects of their partners’ countries. Students will be encouraged to start themselves and inspire others to contribute to better public spaces – water the greenery, trim and plant trees, renovate sports areas and playgrounds, organize a cleanup. Students will be encouraged to take concrete actions of active citizenship, decision making and will be involved in activities which will raise their European citizenship mentality, a sense of belonging in a group, collaboration and a more sustainable and discrimination-free world.
