Two major sports campaigns kick off on September 23
September 23 will see the start of two important sports initiatives by the European Commission.
HealthyLifestyle4All
The successor to Tartu Call for a Healthy Lifestyle, the initiative HealthyLifestyle4All will promote healthy lifestyles across generations and social groups. It will also be a co-creation effort – everyone from citizens to authorities to sports organisations will be invited to help design it, by contributing to any of three pillars:
- Awareness: do children and adults know why and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
- Access: can all children and adults, including disadvantaged groups, easily access physical activity and healthy diets?
- Holistic approach: is it clear that food, health, well-being and sports are interconnected?
Interested parties will be able to make “pledges” on the Commission’s Sport website.
European Week of Sports
This year, too, the European Week of Sports will be celebrated in autumn 2021, taking stock of the unique circumstances of the pandemic. Home workouts saw a surge during the lockdowns, as did running and cycling – the only sports that were allowed in many countries – but now more sports activities have resumed across the continent, both in and out of school.
The core themes of this year’s campaign are joy, resilience, and intergenerational, highlighting people’s renewed awareness of sports and their role in our lives.
Is your school or a school you know organising an event to celebrate the week? You can watch this video for inspiration, or listen to the dedicated playlist on Spotify.
