Be Active! Join the European Week of Sport 7-13 September
The European Week of Sport will be structured around four Focus Days, intended as the main settings where people can be more active and practise sport: the education environment (including nurseries, schools, universities, etc.), the workplace, outdoors, sport clubs and fitness centres. The main slogan for the week is "#BeActive", which is also the key to the European Commission’s communication activities.
The lack of physical activity has a negative impact on people’s health and well-being, and therefore the campaign aims to encourage people to better integrate physical activity in their daily life and inspire them to do more. Especially schools have an important role to play in encouraging children and young adults to establish good habits for life.
At the same time, it is just as important to focus on the potential of sport to promote social inclusion and reinforce essential values such as tolerance. Whether at the professional or the grassroots level, sport brings together people of different ages, backgrounds and cultures, promoting values such as respect and fair play. And it helps to create friendships and build communities.
All schools from over Europe are welcome to join the European Week of Sport and help make it a success: many schools are already active in organising "sport days" for their pupils, hopefully inspiring other schools to do the same.
If your school is organising an activity related to the European Week of Sport, do not hesitate to register your event on the map of events and join the Facebook event! And why not encourage your pupils (and their parents!) to take the #myweek #beactive challenge?
Let's #beactive together!
