Kinsale Community School is an inclusive second-level school with an open enrolment policy in County Cork, Ireland. The school has a population of 1,500 pupils and 160 staff members.  The school provides an outstanding education for the diverse needs of all pupils, while also catering to a wide array of extra- and co-curricular activities, with 21st-century facilities and resources.  

Kinsale has a dedicated staff who facilitate and promote inclusive practices. The school is committed to:

  • Enabling all students to fulfil their academic, intellectual, moral, spiritual, social, cultural and physical potential.
  • Enhancement of a positive culture of inclusive and ambitious practices.
  • Fostering the development of personal responsibility.
  • Engendering a spirit of co-operation and mutual respect between students, staff, management, parents and the wider community.
  • Enhancing a culture of enquiry led, research informed, professional development of staff.

The staff is dedicated to supporting pupils with additional needs, including moderate learning difficulties and autism, helping them to fulfil their social, moral, cultural and physical potential in a very supportive environment. The school infrastructure has been designed and amended to accommodate students with physical disabilities.

Kinsale places an emphasis on social and emotional learning and engagement through a variety of student-centred programmes. The school has placed an emphasis on anti-bullying and has developed an anti-bullying charter, signed by each pupil. Particular attention is given to ensure the induction of international pupils, for example by appointing a dedicated English as an Additional Language (EAL) coordinator.

Furthermore, the school’s dedication to helping every pupil to reach their full academic and personal potential is aided by participation in Erasmus+ funded projects, science competitions and fairs, sport competitions and cultural events. The school is recognised as a Microsoft Showcase School and collaborates with a variety of third-level institutions and universities.
